My article in TFH

I received a couple magazines from Tropical Fish Hobbyist yesterday with my featured article. Be sure to pick up a copy when it hits the stands in a week or so. It's the February issue with a seahorse on the cover. My mandarin article is even showcased on the cover with the title "Mandarin in a nano?"

It's been very exciting and I was ecstatic with how well my photographs came out. I hope to write more articles for TFH in the future, concentrating on micro reef systems.

Be sure to read the editor's introduction and another mandarin article on the mandarin diner. It's a good read and the diner is a great tip for feeding mandarins that accept prepared foods.

Hope you like the article and the pictures!

Cleaned out tank

On Sunday I broke down the algae-ridden ten gallon in the office here. Took the plants and synthetic coral out the night before, scrubbed them, then hung them to dry. Seemed to do the trick pretty nicely at getting the slime off, which was thick as a toxic syrup. Disgusting shit. It had covered almost every inch of the tank and cleaning the gravel was a major chore. Had to refill the tank several times just to get the water vacuum going again. Then I had to use a net and manually get out bits of the crap.

I yanked the lights and replaced them with two ten watt 50/50s, which are specifically for saltwater tanks. This subdued, bluer lighting looks fantastic and hopefully will kill the remaining algae spores.
